EKAJ Educational Fund – Commitment to Youth Capacity Building

The EKAJ Educational Fund places youth unemployment at the center of it’s social intervention agenda. Recognizing that young people are the driving force of future growth and social stability, the Fund is committed to engaging youth in a range of capacity building initiatives. This commitment is embedded in our core principles, ensuring inclusivity and equitable access in all programs and activities.
As part of this mandate, the Fund has identified five core focus areas for building the capacity of youth within the Municipality:

Focus 1: Technical and Vocational Skills Training

  • Sectors to target: Construction, agriculture, ICT and Artisans
  • Delivery methods: TVET institutions, mobile training units, apprenticeship programs.
  • Certification: EKAJ will ensure programs lead to nationally or regionally recognized qualifications.

Focus 2: Entrepreneurship and Business Development

  • Training Topics: Business planning, financial literacy, digital marketing, bookkeeping, and customer service.
  • Support Services: Access to microfinance, incubation hubs, and mentorship.
  • Target Outcomes: Startups, cooperatives, or self-employment.

Focus 3: Soft Skills Development

  • Focus areas: Communication, teamwork, critical thinking, leadership, time management, and work ethic.
  • Why it’s important: Employers highly value these skills, regardless of the industry.

Focus 4: Digital Literacy and ICT Skills

  • Basic skills: Email, Microsoft Office, online communication tools.
  • Advanced skills: Coding, web development, graphic design, digital marketing.
  • Delivery: Through community ICT centers, online platforms, or youth centers.

Focus 5: Agriculture and Agribusiness Training

  • Focus areas: Climate-smart agriculture, value addition, agri-processing, irrigation techniques, and cooperative management.
  • Support mechanisms: Access to inputs, tools, and markets.
